Subtilty Of Addiction (part one)

You get cautioned in any substance abuse program upon informing them that you are happy now, found some one who loves you (a romantic interest), in essence (cautioned) that it will not be of any help in procuring your advancement toward healing. Even a therapist will sound alarm bells for your sake concerning such an event occurring in your life.

This phenomenon actually falls under the category of Mania (manic personality).

Mood changes subject to associated sparked emotions. Effusions, and affirmations of love and overwhelming joy coming from a poor manic soul, are seasonal, unreliable for sustainment of any form of consistence, or permanence.

And bear in mind that you are baiting yourself, because drama requires this, to provide the illusion that you are progressing, thereby giving you an identification with value. You must watch out for this innate lure. This is normal and common.

This behavior affords continuity of the addictive personality. What’s even more important is the recognizing that you are trading one addiction for another.

In a nutshell, here is a keyword I wish to emphasize for the addict; Significance.

Tack unto that; Value, and to that Identification. It is so important that you place some stock upon these words. Stick with me and I will lead you proper and correct.

First acknowledge that the life of an addict is full of events, and that those events have come about in quite a dramatic way. “Drama” is another essential word for us.

So here’s another word; Continuance, and yet Perpetuation.

You see there is something within which sustains the behavior of the addict. All self destructive behavior has a “Reward” built into it. IE The perpetuation of said behavior is fueled by the reward built into it.

Yes, it is true, something very sad, disruptive happened in the life of the addict which led to the poor soul found at present.

However, that event merely connected with a vein within which we all come into this world with. Hard to swallow, I know and recognize. But stick with me. There’s more.

As an example let’s offer up, the life of someone who came about (through events) to give birth to a child and claimed that the child coming into their life is the reason they have cleaned their act. I had a woman relating to me (in another category) how that “Children keep you straight”. If things like this keep one straight then we are “performing” and not ourselves. By this I don’t mean that I advocate a life of total unrestrained living, uh uh no indeedy.

Thank you for putting up with me thus far.

  1. Reblogged this on andnowmiguel and commented:

Here is a old post, bear with it please, for in it you will find some confrontation on my part. You will discern the confrontation in my sounding quite patronizing. Familiar. Superior. I could have changed that but chose not to but instead explain it. I was under attack in the days when I wrote it. My ideas were being challenged, scoffed at, so that’s is why I was defensive, and it can be felt in the writing. This is the fighter in me. I hope you are able to glean something from it. Presently I dislike when I come upon writing like this, but that is the “perfectionist” in me. Enjoy. Sincerely; MAO
